Coffee... Good for You?

After some research Chillybean has come to the conclusion that in most cases and in the right amounts coffee can actually be very good for you. YES! Your morning coffee is making you healthier! We have decided to officially test this theory and start a coffee challenge. Watch the live video from our Facebook page or check out our Instagram feed to see more info on this task!

Starting Monday July 23rd we will be conducting a challenge where every day you drink 2-3 cups of coffee including one meal containing a coffee element (coffee scrub on chicken, espresso power in beef etc.) and we will record the results. We will be checking in on weight, energy levels, productivity and overall mood. We will post special recipes, products we use and methods of brewing. We will also keep a vague log throughout the day to update you on how we are handling the challenge so that there are no secrets!

Every day we will update you on meals and any kind of physical activity and how much coffee we would drink. Every week there will be a weigh-in and update on energy and mood. Every two weeks we will conduct a vlog post going in depth of the results and if we believe it to be working. The challenge will last for three full months (October 23rd) to assure we give the body time to adjust.

 

So, why are we doing this? What are the benefits of drinking coffee anyhow?

 

1.     Obviously Increases Energy Levels

Coffee of course has caffeine, which is the common stimulant that keeps people up at night. This caffeine travels into your blood stream and blocks Adenosine in your brain which makes you drowsy. It also can effect your nerves, making your reflexes quicker. This is why when you see someone have to much coffee, they can tend to get a little jittery.

2.     Coffee can make you Smarter and Happier

Many studies have shown that regular coffee drinkers have improved brain function including memory, mood, vigilance and reaction times. Coffee also increases the dopamine release within the brain to improve mood.

3.     Burns Fat?

Nearly 93% of all fat-burning supplements taken contain caffeine. It is one of the only organic compounds every found to help you burn fat! It doesn’t just speed up you mind, coffee can speed you metabolic rate by 3-11%.

4.     Essential Nutrients

Coffee also contains several very important nutrients that a body really needs and wants. Only one cup holds Vitamin B2, Vitamin B5, Manganese and Potassium and Vitamin B3.

5.     Studies can show that Coffee aids in Disease Prevention 

There are so many different studies in which coffee can aid in the prevention of things such as cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Although there is no 100% reason why, coffee is able to block different neurotransmitters in the brain that help these diseases spread. The studies scientists have done is based on the much lower risk of these diseases for avid coffee drinkers. It is also said that coffee acts as a protector for the liver.

 

REMEMBER:

Like all things, coffee is to be enjoyed in moderation. Caffeine can dehydrate you and too much coffee could not be so good your body. 2-3 cups a day is good, just remember to drink lots of water!
